I would be pleased to hear from you if you can offer any additional genealogical or family information relevant to this page, especially if you possess old photographs that could be added to this site for those who follow. Please use the site's Contact Page in the first instance.
This page was moved to the new .org website in November 2019. The page has been re-headed at the top and re-footed (if re-footed is indeed a word) at the bottom. The page text below this note dates from 2003 and is awaiting resetting. I will rework the images and links as I come to them. All the census information for 1891 is complete, just somewhat untidy...
Introduction
This is the 1891 Census for the
Parish of Wimpole in Cambridgeshire.
There were 290 men, women and
children living in the Parish of Wimpole on the 5 April 1891.
The census commences with the School House in the village at the eastern end of Cambridge Road then follows the northern side of the road westwards [most of the village properties on the southern side of Cambridge Road were in the Parish of Orwell until 1999] towards the hamlet of Arrington Bridge. The census then jumps straight to the Rectory and Wimpole Hall, before recording the farms and dwellings around the Wimpole Estate. The 5th Earl of Hardwicke is not in residence - in just three year's time 'Champagne Charlie' will be selling the Wimpole Hall estate to settle massive gambling debts.
The Population of Wimpole
There
is a national Census every ten years when the year ends in a one.
The following table gives the population of the Parish of Wimpole
from 1801 to 1951 (the numbers include children and visitors from
outside the parish in temporary residence within Wimpole on the
date of census).
My thanks and acknowedgements to the 'census team' who provided the documentation and who typed and checked the various page transcripts. Particular thanks to Mike Giddings, Susan Giddings, Alexandra Morton and John Parkins for all their help, assistance and encouragement.

Old Wooden School
This was the original school building in Wimpole. After the new 'brick'
C of E School was built in 1874, the building was converted into one
then two small dwellings. It was listed as an Almshouse in 1933 (this
image is the only photograph of the school I have been able to find
and is taken from an ink 'duplicated' WI pamphlet issued in 1958).
The original Wimpole Village Hall (1924-1977) can be glimpsed on the
right.
